Scholarship Program Guidelines - 2008
Overview:
The purpose of CHARACTER COUNTS! SM is
to strengthen and reinforce ethical values and
character in our community’s youth and adults. These
scholarship awards are based upon the pillar of Citizenship.
It honors four young citizens of Elk Grove who paid the
ultimate sacrifice for our nation:
James S. Cronin, Phillip E. Frank, John T. Olson, Adriana N.
Salem.
Eligibility:
• Applicant must be an Elk Grove Village resident, a U.S.
citizen and a graduating high school
senior.
• No restrictions regarding race, religion, national origin,
sex or physical disability.
Requirements:
• Applicants must submit a completed three-page application

Scholarship Application) along with the following:
• One letter of reference from a teacher, school counselor,
coach or principal.
• One letter of reference from an employer or community
member.
• Official High School Transcript and grade point average.
• ACT (Prairie State) and/or SAT scores
• Essay
Three Non-renewable Awards:
• Two $2000.00 scholarships and one $5000.00 scholarship to
be used at a four year college, a trade school or a
vocational school.
Citizenship Evaluation Criteria:
• Content of citizenship essay;
• leadership involvement in the community; and
• leadership involvement in school.
Selection:
• Selection will be made by the Scholarship Committee of the
Community Character Coalition of
Elk Grove.
• Only completed applications (three application pages and
an essay) with all required
documentation will be considered.
• Scholarship not based on financial need.
• Deadline: 3 p.m. April 11, 2008.
Completed application along with all required documentation
must be submitted in a sealed envelope by 3:00 p.m. on April
11. 2008 to:
